New Cutting Boards Coming to Szimpel Woodwork — Oak, Ash & Custom Inlay

What's Coming to the Shop — New Boards, New Woods, New Possibilities
It's been a busy few weeks in the workshop, and I wanted to share what's coming to Szimpel Woodwork over the next month or so — because there's quite a bit to look forward to.
Custom Inlay End Grain Cutting Boards — Made to Your Design
This is the one I'm most excited about. Using CNC technology in my Edinburgh workshop, I'll be offering custom inlay end-grain cutting boards — boards where your chosen design is inlaid directly into the wood using contrasting hardwoods. Think initials, logos, geometric patterns, or something completely unique to you. The result is a design that's not printed or engraved — it's actually part of the wood itself, built from different species of hardwood pieced together with precision.
These boards start from around £300, and I'm already taking orders. If you have a design in mind — whether it's a personal monogram, a business logo, or a pattern you've been dreaming about — get in touch through the Contact Mepage, and we can talk through what's possible. Don't wait for the full range to land in the shop — if you know what you want, let's start the conversation now.
They make extraordinary gifts — for weddings, housewarmings, milestone birthdays, or for anyone who appreciates something truly one-of-a-kind. And honestly, they're just a joy to make.
More End Grain Boards — New Woods
The current shop focuses on Black American Walnut, Maple, and Cherry end grain cutting boards, and the response has been brilliant. So I'm expanding the range. Coming very soon are end-grain cutting boards in Oak and Ash — two beautiful, characterful hardwoods that bring a completely different look and feel to the block. Oak has that distinctive open grain and golden warmth, while Ash is lighter and almost has a gentle shimmer. Both are incredibly hard-wearing and perfectly suited to end-grain construction.
Long Grain Oak Cutting Boards
Alongside the new end-grain boards, I'll also be adding long-grain oak cutting boards to the shop. Long-grain boards have a different aesthetic to end-grain — cleaner, more minimal, with the wood's natural grain running along the length of the board. They're a great option if you love the look of solid oak but prefer a slightly different style. These will be available to buy directly from the shop from the beginning of next month.
Don't Miss What's Coming
The new boards will be landing in the shop at the beginning of next month, but you don't have to wait — I'm open for commissions right now. Follow along on Instagram and Facebook for updates, or drop me a message through the contact page and let's make something together.
More soon.
